BENEFITS:
There are many benefits associated with drinking organic milk. Our cows are not treated with conventional antibiotics thus there is no chance that residual antibiotics will be found in the milk you drink. Because no synthetic chemicals are used to produce the feed for our cows, there is no chance of pesticide or chemical fertilizer residues in the milk either. The organic practices used in the production of feed for our cows are also beneficial to the environment. Pesticides often end up in surface and groundwater supplies. Children are especially susceptible to the effects of pesticide residues in their bodies.

Our cows graze on pasture for as much as the year allows and during the winter eat primarily hay products grown at our farm. The health benefits for you are numerous. In 2005 milk from organically raised cows was found to have 75% higher levels of beta-carotene, 50% higher levels of vitamin E, and was two to three times higher in the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthine. Beta-carotene is converted to Vitamin A in the body, which is essential for production of retinol for vision, bone development, and reproductive health. Antioxidants slow oxidation, a natural process that leads to cell and tissue damage. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, into which the effects on cancer and heart disease are still being researched. Lutein and zeaxanthine are both important in eye health. Milk from organically raised cow has also been found to be higher in Omega 3 essential fatty acids. Omega 3 essential fatty acids have been found to be beneficial to you for many reasons including reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

The glass bottles we bottle our milk in are returnable to us at farmers’ markets, to the stores where our milk is sold, or to the farm. The bottles are washed, sterilized, and reused virtually eliminating wasted packaging from the milk you buy. Many of our customers prefer their milk in glass because they feel that plastic and cardboard packaging affects the flavor of the milk.

Our milk is bottled fresh and is not pasteurized or homogenized. Pasteurization destroys enzymes, destroys vitamins C, B12, and B6, kills off beneficial bacteria, and denatures fragile milk proteins. Pasteurized milk has been associated with allergies, colic in infants and growth problems in children as well as osteoporosis, heart disease, arthritis, and cancer. Homogenized milk has also been linked to heart disease. Our milk offers you a safe, healthy alternative to commercially processed milk. Because our milk is not homogenized, the cream will float to the top. You can separate the cream out for use in your favorite recipe, to make your own butter, or to use in your coffee.

Our farm is a multi-generational, diverse family farm. By supporting our farm you are ensuring the future of our farm and thus a small farm right here in Central Maine. We believe in good stewardship of our land and animals so by supporting us you are also acting as a steward as well.

We offer our milk in half-gallon, quart and pint sized glass bottles. With such a selection of sizes we have the perfect sized option no matter how many you are feeding.

We sell at the Skowhegan, Farmington, Orono, and Waterville Farmers’ Markets. You can also find our milk at the Better Living Center in Farmington, Ampersand in Orono, B & F Vegetables in Winslow, The Apple Farm in Fairfield, Lakeside Orchards in
Manchester, and at Up Front and Pleasant Gourmet in Farmington. With this many
locations you can conveniently find our milk and return bottles all over Central Maine.
